The head of the executive branch at the federal level is the president of the United States, at the state level it is governors, and at the municipal level it is mayors.

The areas of the legal system that are the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government are admiralty, bankruptcy, currency, patents, copyrights, actions against the United States brought by foreign governments, and violations of federal criminal laws.
