The Sherman Antitrust Act is used as an antimonopoly law and the grounds for lawsuits by firms that are trying to keep one firm from buying another similar type of firm and thereby eliminating competition.

Federal criminal courts hear cases that involve federal crimes such as organized crime, the armed forces, interstate crimes, embezzlement, burglary, homicide, robbery, draft violations, narcotics, and immigration violations.
