Answer to Question 1

The requirements for the Professional Engineers Principles and Practice examination are different from the Fundamentals of Engineering examination because along with having an engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology accredited institution an applicant for the PE examination has to also meet the experience requirement that is between two and four years depending on which state the applicant will be taking the examination in and applicants have to provide letters of reference that address the character, honesty, and integrity of the applicant from coworkers or supervisors who have a PE license.

Answer to Question 2

Engineers should obtain a Professional Engineers (PE) license because it is difficult for no-engineers to judge whether an engineer is performing their work properly or not. When an engineer has a PE license it demonstrates to potential clients that the engineer meets minimum competency and integrity requirements and that the engineer has the required education and experience to be practicing engineering.
