Answer to Question 1

The impact of the scheduling programs on the construction industry has been
quite extensive. During the 1970' s, most construction schedules were prepared on
mainframe computers. This was often a time-consuming and costly process. As such,
schedules on construction projects were not universally employed. Many schedules were
still prepared manually. With the programs that are now available on the personal
computers, the use of network schedules in the construction industry has increased
considerably.

Answer to Question 2

There is a possibility that data input directly on a computer will result in a
detachment of the scheduler from the information. Manual construction of a schedule
keeps the scheduler directly involved in the input information. As such, the scheduler is
in a better position to more critically evaluate the value of the information being used and
the information being developed by the network computations.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
