Answer to Question 1

Contributory negligence is when some act or action that was performed by a plaintiff contributed to the plaintiff being injured or killed while on the property of a defendant or while working with a defendant. Contributory negligence could be used as a defense by a defendant in a negligence lawsuit to demonstrate the plaintiff was partially liable for their injury or death.

Answer to Question 2

Deep pockets is a term used to describe a defendant in a lawsuit that would have the highest potential for a plaintiff to receive a large settlement because the defendant either has a high value insurance policy or substantial assets. In tort liability lawsuits, plaintiffs might choose to only sue individuals that have deep pockets rather than other responsible parties since they would have a better chance of receiving a substantial sum of money in the settlement.
