Answer to Question 1

The Hobbs Act of 1951 was originally passed to protect employees from threats of violence, the use of force, or general threats by union officials that were being used to secure money from employers. This act is also used to prosecute members of firms that bribe owners or government officials to secure work.

Answer to Question 2

United States District courts hear cases such as antitrust lawsuits, social security, truth-in-lending, civil rights, bankruptcy, passports, naturalization, racial integration, sexual discrimination in employment, and Occupational Health and Safety Administration matters.
