Answer to Question 1

Conveyors must be equipped with an on/off switch that is accessible to workers and an emergency cutoff switch. There must be an audible warning system that alerts personnel in the vicinity that the conveyor is about to start up. Workers must not be allowed to ride conveyors. In addition, conveyors should be equipped with appropriate guards to shield workers from moving parts. Conveyors used above ground should be equipped with overhead protection. All conveyors should be blocked off by barricades to prevent workers from trying to pass, step, or jump over them.
