Answer to Question 1

The ends of the armature coils on the rotor are connected to commutator segments. Carbon brushes ride on the segments and provide a path for the induced current to the output terminals that are mounted in the frame of the generator.

Answer to Question 2

The armature is in the rotating assembly, which is used in smaller ac generators. As the rotor spins through the magnetic field provided by the stator, power is generated. It is removed through slip rings and brushes to the output terminals. The practical rotating armature generator has many pole pairs, with opposite poles located next to each other and a complete sign wave is generated as it passes each pair of poles.
