Answer to Question 1

1 . Distribution Control: automating substations and switch gear

2 . Sensing and Measurement: wide-area monitoring systems, special protection systems, etc.

3 . Interfaces and Decision Support: enhanced support for users
4 . Advanced Components: fuel cells, microgrid technologies, ultracapacitors, etc.
5 . Integrated Communications: broadband over power lines, etc.

6 . Cybersecurity: improved guarding against cyber-attacks and rapid recovery capability

Answer to Question 2

Delivery is cheaper using overhead lines, but is subject to damage during storms or accidents. Underground wiring is more costly to install and maintain but avoids unsightly wiring.
