Answer to Question 1

Low-temperature resources have a temperature less than 90o C (194o F). The lower temperature resources are used for heating buildings, fish farming, bathing and even snow melting (in places like Iceland with a very large geothermal resource.)

High-temperature resources have a temperature greater than 150o C (302o F). These resources are generally used for electrical generation and can drive steam turbines directly.

In between low-temperature resources and high-temperature resources are moderate-temperature resources.

Answer to Question 2

The main parts include the production well, steam turbine, alternator (generator), condenser, cooling tower and an injection well.

When operating, steam enters the turbine and causes it to spin. As the steam loses its energy, the temperature drops and the steam condenses. A separate condenser cools the steam and it condenses to water (creating a lower pressure in the process). The turbine is connected to a generator, which produces electricity. The condenser is cooled from make-up water and water that is evaporated in the cooling tower. Water is returned to the reservoir via an injection well

Did you know?

The human body's pharmacokinetics are quite varied. Our hair holds onto drugs longer than our urine, blood, or saliva. For example, alcohol can be detected in the hair for up to 90 days after it was consumed. The same is true for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, methamphetamine, and nicotine.

Did you know?

Chronic marijuana use can damage the white blood cells and reduce the immune system's ability to respond to disease by as much as 40%. Without a strong immune system, the body is vulnerable to all kinds of degenerative and infectious diseases.

Did you know?

Looking at the sun may not only cause headache and distort your vision temporarily, but it can also cause permanent eye damage. Any exposure to sunlight adds to the cumulative effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on your eyes. UV exposure has been linked to eye disorders such as macular degeneration, solar retinitis, and corneal dystrophies.

Did you know?

Interferon was scarce and expensive until 1980, when the interferon gene was inserted into bacteria using recombinant DNA technology, allowing for mass cultivation and purification from bacterial cultures.

Did you know?

The term bacteria was devised in the 19th century by German biologist Ferdinand Cohn. He based it on the Greek word "bakterion" meaning a small rod or staff. Cohn is considered to be the father of modern bacteriology.
