Answer to Question 1

Taper reduces lift where tip speed is greatest but it does not need to support the weight so the tip can be lighter and thinner. The blade is twisted along the length to keep the angles correct for optimum lift and strength.

Answer to Question 2

The yaw brakes are located on the yaw ring gear, high-speed shaft brakes surround a rotor plate on that is attached to the high-speed shaft, and rotor brakes are located directly behind the rotor hub at the front of the wind turbine.
