What is the advantage of PMDC motors for smaller motor requirements over wound rotor and wound stator motors?

Answer to Question 1

PMDC motors are simple and have high starting torque, which is useful for moving slow-moving collectors.

Answer to Question 2

A north-south orientation of trough collectors means only one axis needs to move for tracking.
