Answer to Question 1

Light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis convert solar energy to usable chemical energy in the form of ATP, which is used by cells as a primary energy source for cellular reactions. This process extracts electrons from water and produces O2 and hydrogen ions. When excess ATP is produced, photosynthesizers produce carbohydrate from carbon dioxide, using the ATP, electrons, and hydrogen ions produced by the light-dependent reactions. When photosynthetic organisms are unable to convert light energy to chemical energy they can break down the carbohydrates via aerobic respiration, which uses the waste oxygen gas produced by photosynthesis and releases carbon dioxide and water.

Answer to Question 2

Chemical, biological

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
