The drawing should look like soap bubbles.

Answer to Question 2

Arms are shown in the face-on figure, usually two grand spiral arms (even though the MWG has spurs). Edge-on, the MWG appears like a quarter and we see the outer rim of the arms, which we refer to as the disk.
