The central bulge and halo of the galaxy are very similar in the type of orbits and amount of gas and dust found in them. These two regions make up the spherical component of the galaxy.

Newton's understanding of gravity allowed him to explain why the planets obey Kepler's laws of planetary motion. His work finished the transformation of what were once considered the mysterious wanderings of the planets into understandable motions that follow simple rules. In fact, his discovery of gravity explained something else that had mystified philosophers for millenniathe ebb and flow of ocean tides.
