As the nebula contracts, it forms a dusty disk around the protostar's equator; often these are seen in profile with HST images around the protostars.

Answer to Question 2

At stage 7, the zero-age main-sequence star is fusing hydrogen and on the main sequence, to stay there for as long as it has sufficient hydrogen to remain stable.
