The tiny ripples in the background radiation COBE found are due to
 
  A) bubble-like nature of space.

Question 2

Where do the majority of naked-eye stars fall on the H-R diagram? Is this true of the majority of stars close to our Sun as well?

Most bright stars are much hotter main sequence stars than our Sun, so lie above it and to the left on the main sequence. Red dwarfs are actually the most common type of stars in the sky and are underrepresented on H-R diagrams of visible stars because they are dim.
