Take the lens maker equation and show that a lens which has been turned around (surface 1 becomes 2 and 2 becomes 1 ) has the same focal length.

Answer to Question 1

1/f=(n-1)(1/R1 - 1/R2 ) A sign change occurs when 1 and 2 are exchanged, and the radii themselves change sign because the center of curvature moves to other side of surface. These sign changes cancel each other out and yield the same f.
