Consider an aluminum rod encircling the Earth (radius 6378. km). If the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the aluminum is 24.  10-6 (C)-1,
 
  and if the temperature of the rod increases by 1.0 C, how high off the ground would the expanded ring be (assuming uniform space all around)?
