Answer to Question 1

The mass of the invisible object, based on Kepler's Laws, is about 10 solar masses, well over the 3 solar mass limit on a neutron star. The electromagnetic radiation varies over milliseconds, indicating that the area emitting the radiation is comparable in size to a football field. The temperature indicated by the x-ray emission indicates millions of kelvins, consistent with an accretion disk around a black hole.
