Answer to Question 1

The planets still orbit in the common counter clockwise direction. This was the direction of the condensing nebula's rotation. The orbits are almost circular, as the nebula formed in concentric rings. All planets move close to the ecliptic, the plane in which the condensing disk flattened out around the Sun's equator.
