Why would Earth's orbit be unaffected were the Sun to suddenly become a black hole?

Answer to Question 1

Earth's orbit (and those of the other planets) would remain unchanged since they are far enough away that Newton's law of gravity applies and the gravitational force depends only on the masses of the objects and the distance between them, not on their composition or density.
