Answer to Question 1

For gigantic Jupiter, its gradual gravitational contraction is still sufficient to generate twice the energy it gets from the Sun. The smaller Earth finished such contraction long ago, and depends instead of radioactive decay of Uranium 238 and other heavy elements to heat its core and generate geothermal energy.
