It could have kicked up enough dust to darken the sky for years, causing a substantial decrease in plant life. This would have disrupted the food chain. As a result, the large, herbivorous dinosaurs would not have found enough plants to eat and the carnivorous dinosaurs would have perished as a result of a substantial decrease in other animals to eat.
