What is believed to be the origin of the Caloris Basin? What other features on Mercury's surface are related to this origin? Explain.

Answer to Question 1

The Caloris Basin was probably the result of a large asteroid collision. It is surrounded by concentric mountain ranges. On the opposite side of Mercury is rippled pattern possibly formed by seismic waves that traveled completely around Mercury as a result of this impact.
