Scarps: Long, cliff-like structures that formed as the interior cooled and shrank.
Craters: Roughly circular features formed by impacts, similar to the Moon's craters.
Intercrater plains: Rolling plains that cover 40 of Mercury's surface that covered earlier craters.
Smooth plains: Lava-filled craters similar to the Moon's maria, but lighter in color.
