The dropout voltage rating of a particular 12-V IC regulator is 2.5 V. What does this mean?
 
  A) The rated input voltage is 2.5 V.
  B) The output voltage is always 2.5 V less than the input voltage.
  C) The circuit loses regulation when the input voltage falls below 14.5 V.
  D) The circuit loses regulation when the input voltage rises above 14.5 V.
