Answer to Question 1

a. If an invading species has left behind parts of the ecosystem that kept numbers
in check, and no other species in the new ecosystem can affect the invader or prey on it, it
can successfully compete and prosper. Then it has a good possibility of its taking over and
having its population explode in the new environment.
b. If the new ecosystem has similar biota to the old, with similar species in similar niches,
and with predators of similar character, it is unlikely that the species will explode.

Answer to Question 2

It is not known how small an exposure could lead to cancer. However, as Table
14.7 shows, breathing VOCs can lead to cancer. This is too vague a statement as written to
be able to agree or disagree.
