Native insects are integral parts of their ecosystems. Some cause harm to certain
plants, but overall, the elements of native ecosystems have adapted to one another.

Answer to Question 2

That is the case. Much of the material in the waste stream is carbon-based, and
carbon that is in solids when burned in air makes carbon dioxide, a gas that is removed from
the solid material. The volume of solid material is much less than in the original waste
stream, which is what has made burning of MSW so attractive in Europe and Japan, two
regions lacking large areas that can be committed to landfills.
