The lifetime of a fossil fuel resource, formed by dividing the total reserves by the current use rate, is an accurate measure of the number of years of that resource remaining to be exploited.

It is not possible because the use of fossil fuels is growing. We discussed the
question of linear and exponential growth in several chapters. The linear lifetime is always
greater than the exponential lifetime.
