Answer to Question 1

We do not yet have the peak reached. At that point, when the production curve
turns over, we will be able to make that estimate. Peak oil production is expected within the
first decade of the twenty-first century.

Answer to Question 2

It is important for this answer to realize that the total world use of energy has
increased substantially. However, the use rate, per capita energy consumption, in other
words, has declined. Energy crises worldwide in the 1970s and 1980s led to reduced
industrial energy use and awareness that led to higher standards for buildings in many parts
of the developed world. The entry of less-developed countries to the car market (India and
China, for example) led to rapid growth in the energy markets in those countries.
