Answer to Question 1

Sustainable means that the ecosystem produces more than is being used. As long
as there is an underexploited niche, growth can be sustained. It is the existence of limits (the
finiteness of resources) that makes population growth ultimately unsustainable.

Answer to Question 2

Because their energy usage is small and they are typically not used very often.
