Answer to Question 1

This is correct. In summer, most homes use air conditioning and electricity use
peaks. In winter, many homes heat with gas, and electricity use decreases.

Answer to Question 2

There have been, as of yet, no accidents with fusion energy, but there have been
several notorious accidents involving fission nuclear power stations. Further, there is a
considerable amount of both high and low-level radioactive waste produced by fission
plants, and the continuing controversy over where to store the spent fuel rods.
It is thought the only waste envisioned to come from fusion energy is tritium (from the
lithium blanket), which has a half-life of 12 years. Therefore, fusion energy (at least at first
blush) looks less threatening than fission energy.
