What would happen if you broke the glass at the top of the column in this barometer?
 a. Nothing, except that the mercury would be exposed to the outside air.
  b. The mercury would drop so that the level inside the tube would be equal to that outside the tube.
  c. The height of the column would decrease, but it would still be higher than the level in the surrounding dish.
  d. The mercury level inside the tube would be much lower than the surrounding mercury liquid because of surface tension.
  e. The mercury level inside the tube would be much higher than the surrounding mercury liquid because of surface tension.
