Scientists have made great strides towards unifying the fundamental forces of nature. At the time of the publishing of the text, the most unified of theories shows that the total number of forces to be fundamental in physics is
  3
  1
  2
  4
  5

Question 2

A small sphere of initial volume V is filled with n moles of helium at initial pressure and temperature P and T. Which of the following statements is true?

n/2 moles of gas are removed, the volume is decreased to V/2, and the pressure decreases to P/4 with a drop in temperature of T/2

The volume decreases to V/2, and the pressure increases to 4P when the temperature is T/2
n moles of gas are added, the total sample is heated to 2T, and the pressure drops to P/2 when the volume increases to 8V

The amount of gas is doubled to 2n, the pressure is doubled to 2P, and the volume is doubled to 2V, with a corresponding temperature drop to T/2

Answer to Question 1

3
at this point in time the three fundamental forces are gravity, the electroweak, and the strong force. The electromagnetic and weak forces were proven to be facets of the same force in the 1970's. GUT's strive to further unify the three forces into 2 or even just 1.

Answer to Question 2

Using the ideal gas law PV = nRT, you can expect a pressure drop to P/2.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis syndrome are life-threatening reactions that can result in death. Complications include permanent blindness, dry-eye syndrome, lung damage, photophobia, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, permanent loss of nail beds, scarring of mucous membranes, arthritis, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Many patients' pores scar shut, causing them to retain heat.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
