We want to determine experimentally the specific heat of a 3-gram iron ingot whose mass is known. The ingot is heated to 100C and it is placed in a 200-gram sample of water whose initial temperature is 20C. We would expect the final temperature of the water to be around
  1.100C.
  2.70C.
  3.40C.
  4.20C.

Question 2

Two identical rocks are placed in a furnace on a cold day. One of the rocks is removed a few minutes before the other and allowed to cool and then the other is removed. Both are set outside. At this point, one rock has a temperature that is twice that of its surroundings (on a Kelvin scale) and the other has a temperature that is three times that of its surroundings (a very hot rock). The ratio of the power radiated by the very hot rock to that radiated by the hot rock is approximately
  1.3:2
  2.9:4
  3.5:1
  4.2:1
