Answer: Continental drift proposed that continental land was not staticthe continents moved. The theory was well supported by the jig-saw fit of continental land masses at their margins, and by data in paleo-climatology and paleontology. Although the evidence was quite remarkable, a suitable driving mechanism to produce such crustal movement was lacking.
