A double convex lens has faces with radii of magnitudes 18.0 cm and 20.0 cm. When an object is placed 24.0 cm in front of the lens, a real image is formed 32.0 cm from the lens.

  (a) What is the focal length of this lens?
  (b) What is the index of refraction of the material from which the lens is made?

Question 2

A 40.0-g block of ice at -15.00C is dropped into a calorimeter (of negligible heat capacity) containing water at 15.00C.

When equilibrium is reached, the final temperature is 8.00C. How much water did the calorimeter contain initially? The specific heat of ice is 2090 J/kg  K, that of water is 4186 J/kg  K, and the latent heat of fusion of water is 33.5  104 J/kg.
  A) 546 g B) 405 g C) 345 g D) 302 g E) 634 g
