An astronaut is standing on the surface of a planetary satellite that has a radius of 1.74  106 m and a mass of 7.35  1022 kg.

An experiment is planned where a projectile needs to be launched straight up from the surface. What must be the minimum initial speed of the projectile so it will reach a height of 2.55  106 m above this satellite's surface? (G = 6.67  10-11 N  m2/kg2)

Question 2

If an electron is accelerated from rest through a potential difference of 9.9 kV, what is its resulting speed? (e = 1.60  10-19 C, k = 1/40 = 8.99  109 N  m2/C2, mel = 9.11 x 10-31 kg)

  A) 3.9  107 m/s B) 5.9  107 m/s C) 2.9  107 m/s D) 4.9  107 m/s
