Does atmospheric pressure affect the buoyant force on a rigid submarine? Explain why or why not.

Question 2

A solid sphere, solid cylinder, and a hollow pipe all have equal masses and radii. If the three are released simultaneously at the top of an inclined plane, which will reach the bottom first?
 
  A) sphere
  B) pipe
  C) cylinder
  D) they all reach bottom in the same time
  E) It depends on the angle of inclination.

Answer to Question 1

No. Adding a constant value to the pressure does not affect the net force. If the submarine were not rigid, a constant pressure would decrease the volume of the submarine, and thus decrease the buoyancy.
