Answer to Question 1

(1 ) Dielectrics do not break down (allowing electric charge to flow) as readily as air, so a higher voltage can be applied without charge passing across the gap.
(2 ) A dielectric allows the plates to be placed closer together without touching thus allowing an increased capacitance because the plate separation is less.
(3 ) If a dielectric fills the space between the two conductors, it increases the capacitance.

Answer to Question 2

(a) 97 Hz
(b) 73 Hz

Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.

Did you know?

Blood is approximately twice as thick as water because of the cells and other components found in it.
