Because diagnoses tend to follow a person and can affect many areas of that persons life. Some diagnoses are serious and can lead others to regard the client with suspicion and bias.

The dimensional approach says that most psychological phenomena are distributed continuously, with a large majority of people in the middle and a few at the extreme ends of the continuum.
