Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: Description comes directly from the textbook.

Somatic symptom disorders were previously referred to as somatoform disorders and are characterized by the experiencing of a physical symptom without evidence of a physical cause, thus suggesting a psychological cause. Somatic symptom disorders include somatic symptom disorder, illness anxiety disorder (formerly hypochondriasis), conversion (or functional neurological symptom) disorder, psychological factors affecting other medical conditions, and factitious disorder.
