All of the following are true of complementary relationships EXCEPT:
 
  a. each party has a distinct role that balances or complements the other.
  b. conflict in these relationships is less frequent because there are clearly defined, separate roles.
  c. all parties get along better because the relationships are equal rather than hierarchical.
