Answer to Question 1

It is important to consider the member's commitment and trust in the group, how much the member needs to speak, and whether the member is quiet by nature before deciding whether or not to draw the member out. The authors state that it is a mistake to believe that all members need to speak for an equal amount of time in group for each member to benefit. In addition, a member who is not committed to group or who is negative might bring a negative tone to the group.
