Answer to Question 1

Double minority status is defined as a member of a minority ethnic group being a sexual minority. Triple minority status is defined as a member of a minority ethnic group who is a lesbian.
Both ethnic minority gays and lesbians struggle with parallel psychological process of identity. There is a major difference between Asian and American cultures toward the acceptance of the different sexual orientation of LGBT individuals.
Asian cultures view same-sex orientations as unacceptable so many sexual minorities remain in the closet. Asian lesbians and gays, as well as African American gays, have difficulty in being accepted in white and middle-class oriented gay communities; hence the term, double minority status.
Gay African American men are viewed as inferior as members of gay communities and do not receive the same level of affirmation that Caucasian members do. The Hispanic community tends to be homophobic, which caused fear of rejection amongst lesbian Latina women.
Native Americans are not comfortable with identifying themselves as LGBT persons but, rather, as individuals who possess both male and female spirits. Native Americans have great tolerance and respect for personal choice
