 Here-and-now experiences: difficult feelings are addressed as they occur
 Hope: the belief that what is desired will occur; energizes the group as a whole
 Cooperation: group members work together for a common purpose
 Collaboration: members who think they can work together are more likely to participate in reaching group goals
 Cohesion: a spirit of togetherness established and maintained by the group
