When interviewing clients about substance use it is recommend that counselors:
 
  a) Inquire about substances that people tend to have less sensitivity about, e.g. caffeine, before asking about other drugs
  b) Inquire first about the substance that is most widely used in the persons' culture
  c) Challenge clients who appear to be minimizing substance use
  d) Wait until a strong therapeutic relationship has been established before inquiring about substance use.
