Answer to Question 1

Cluster grouping allows students who are gifted to be grouped together in a classroom. The remainder of the class consists of diverse learners. The gifted students work as a small group for some activities and are mixed in with their peers for others. This system is more flexible than tracking but may have some of the problems associated with segregating a specific group of students.
Cooperative learning brings together heterogeneous groups of five or six students to be taught and to learn together. It allows groups of diverse students to work together but may not provide the high level of instruction appropriate for the gifted students. It should not be considered an adequate solution to the problem of accommodating a wide range of abilities in a classroom.
