Answer to Question 1

Students should discuss the subjectivity of definitions of words like inappropriate and satisfactory and indicate their awareness of the difficulties associated with this category.
Additional discussion of how such terms might be objectified would be appropriate. Examples of gathering judgments from several people and from different settings, and of operationalizing behaviors that are in question, would round out this answer.

Answer to Question 2

Students may respond with the five areas listed in the federal definition:

An inability to learn that cannot be explained.
A discussion of the factors intensity, duration, rate, and age-appropriateness.
A discussion of the exclusion of social maladjustment from this category would include mention of common behaviors shared by the category and accepted categories (such as aggression).
A brief discussion of more psychological categories like schizophrenia. Mention of the removal of autism from this category would be appropriate.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
